Founded in 2014 by Adhikaar and the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH), and joined by Workers United NY NJ Regional Joint Board in 2015, the NY Healthy Nail Salons Coalition was formed around the central idea that nail salon workers deserve just jobs: healthy workplaces with living wages and a voice in their working conditions.

Since 2015, Workers United NY/NJ has been the union partner of the NY Healthy Nail Salons Coalition

Working alongside our partners at the NY Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH), and Adhikaar, a women-led worker and community center that serves and organizes the Nepali-speaking immigrant and refugee community, we have developed an innovative worker-led organizing strategy to build power in the industry, founded a school for nail salon workers, and passed progressive policy to protect workers.

We believe that workers, coming together with community, allies and customers, and engaging with responsible nail salon business owners, can address their own health and economic well-being to create healthy nail salons and achieve public health, environmental and racial justice, and dignity in their workplaces.
